ANN Journalism Internships For Students (and adults)

Student Journalist Internships and Letters Of Recommendation

Students in 8^th grade through college or university level who are studying and/or otherwise interested or involved in Journalism or a related field (communications, photography, podcasting, broadcasting writing, etc.) may indicate their interest by filling out the form at bottom of this page. to become Journalism Interns with Alameda Neighborhoods News (ANN).

This opportunity, along with all of the lessons in our Free Journalism Education Program, is cost free to all participants or others. Just click on Lesson One to get started.

Students or others who submit two, substantive, well-reported and structured stories that fit ANN’s core content guidelines (balance, objectivity, verified sourcing and accuracy) may qualify for ANN INTERN status. These two ‘samples’ or ‘qualifiers’ will allow us to assess your readiness. If they are of quality, we may ask your permission to run them in the publication.

Internships will be considered complete after the participant contributes 3 or more community-centric stories (in addition to the two qualifiers) for ANN. The intern may then attain full Certified Content Contributor (CCC) standing after submission of two more additional stories over any time period. All added up, from start to finish, that means a total of seven stories or other products as photo essays, news/feature podcasts and so on.

To qualify, participants will also have to to complete ANN’S Free Journalism Education Program (FJE) . If currently enrolled in a Journalism Program at their school, or are regular news, feature or photojournalism contributors to a school or professional publication or online outlet, the FJE requirement will be waived.

Letters of Recommendation verifying and evaluating the individual’s capabilities and work quality as a student intern and/or CCC will be provided to whatever educational institution, employer or other organization requested by the participant.

Those who earn ANN INTERN or CCC standing will obviously be able to add their participation and achievements to their resumes, online profiles etc. for school, career or other advancement.
