KJTZ Broadcast Radio Station

Hello ANN Community Showcase visitor!

We are 96.1 KJTZ, the Bay Area’s #1 student-led radio station. Our programming connects the community by informing and entertaining the public with creative content. We aim to provide students a platform to voice their perspectives to a local audience.

KJTZ  broadcasts live, on the air,  from  the 180 school days from fall to spring. Our air-time is from 7 AM to 11 AM.

KJTZ is a living, breathing example of one of the career technical education courses offered at Encinal Sr/Jr School, right here in Alameda.  The class is designed to teach students how to edit audio, script write, and perform on the radio.

Special recognition for the vision behind  KJTZ and its  creation and ongoing public service belongs to:

Kevin Gorham, the founder and lead teacher of 96.1 KJTZ, a radio broadcast veteran who brings 20 years of industry experience to his imaginative, high-energy classroom teaching.

Franklin Nguyen is our hands on, day to day co-teacher of 96.1 KJTZ, and an aspiring young man who brings enthusiasm and focused guidance for the program and its students.

A  recent, standout accomplishment by KJTZ program student,  Giuliana Means, is her recent submission of  a public service announcement to the College Broadcasters Inc, in order to compete against students across the globe for an award.

To hear KJTZ live from the EJSHS studios ,  you can  set your radio dial to 96.1 FM to hear a live radio transmission airing from EJSHS studios.

But the news is even better:  we are pleased to report that the world is now able to tune into the Livestream broadcast at www.EncinalRadio.com. Tune in to hear the talented DJs broadcasting from the Encinal radio studios that were funded with Career Technical Education grants.

Students enrolled in the Radio Broadcast Journalism CTE pathway offer a four-hour drive-time show that can be heard weekdays from Monday – Friday from 7 am – 11 am.

We look forward to having you, as a community member support and participate in our education by tuning us in to “share the air” with KJTZ!
